Histon v Salisbury City

Monday 28th August

Score: Histon 4 Salisbury C 2

Histon welcomed newly promoted Salisbury City, home manager Steve Fallon was forced into changes when Ian Cambridge was forced off against Bognor Regis Town at the weekend, coming into the starting line up was Neil Kennedy.

It was City who went close early on when Luke Prince curled a shot wide of Lance Key, but it was the home side that took the lead on 15 minutes, a deep cross from the right found the head of Robbie Nightingale but the ball came off the back of Nightingale and squeezed past defender and keeper.

The lead lasted just 4 minutes, a free kick just outside the area was put to the far post, the home defence failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Matthew Tubb who scored from close range, a long goal kick from City’s Ryan Clarke was flicked on for Tubb, but his end shot flashed across the face of the goal.

On 35 minutes the home side gained the lead once more, this time it was Jamie Barker who danced around the City defence, when it looked like Barker was aiming to shot, he slipped the ball into the path of John Kennedy, whose low drive gave Clarke no chance, with half time approaching the scores were level once more, while Histon players looked for the referee to stop play after two tough challenges, both of which left Erkan Okay and John Kennedy curled up in pain, City carried on playing, which let in Tubb for his second of the afternoon.

The second half started very much like the first ended, played a fast rate, with to many final passes going astray, but with 51 minutes on the clock the home side took the lead once more, as Danny Bloomfield pounced from close range to score his first league goal of the season, with that the home side changed to front two, off went Kennedy and Bloomfield, on came Nathaniel Knight – Percival and Drew Roberts, it was Roberts who caused problems for the defence, his pace paid off on with the game coming to an end, on 88 minutes Roberts shot was too much for Clarke as he added the fourth of the afternoon.
