Histon v Lewes

Nationwide Conference - South

Saturday 28th January 2006

The Glassworld Stadium, Bridge Road, Histon

Both managers will be wondering how their sides didn’t take all 3 points on a cold sunny afternoon in Cambridgeshire, the home side was forced into changes, with defender Erkan Okay and midfielder Ada Cambridge both missing due to suspension, While Roscoe Hipperson was missing due to injury, recalled into the starting eleven was Wayne Goddard and Robbie Nightingale.

It was the home side that looked lively from the start with Ian Cambridge at the heart of every move, the first setting Neil Andrews in with a chance that saw the ball just clear the cross bar, Jamie Barker saw a header from a corner saved by the foot of keeper Paul Wilkerson, Barker then saw a chance cannon off the defence, but the rebound finding the hands of Wilkerson, from defence to attack as Lewes should have taken the lead, striker Jean-Michel Sigere broke free from just inside the Histon half, with the home defence beat and the large frame of keeper Lance Key cutting the angle down Sigere squared the ball to Jamie Cade, the goal empty Cade side footed the ball wide if the post, the next attack saw a cross find Karl Beckford unmarked at the far post, but the chance went begging as Beckford volleyed high and wide, it was then Histon’s time to attack, and it was Andrews once more that had the chance, this time it was the cross bar that saved Lewes, striker Neil Kennedy was next to give Andrews a shooting chance, but again the chance went begging as Andrews pulled his shot wide of the post, Beckford then saw a chance cleared off the line by defender Histon Steve Jackman, somehow as the half time whistle sounded in was still goal less.

The first chance of the second half saw a corner from the home side which resulted in defender Colin Vowden heading wide, Jackman combined well with Cambridge to set free Barker, but his shot was over the bar, with the game looking to end in dead lock the first goal came, a miss hit shoot from Lewes found it’s way past the home defence into the path of Cade, who gave Key little chance as he smashed the ball into the roof of the net, but the lead was sort lived, from the restart Jackman feed the ball into Cambridge’s feet, his flick fell kindly to Barker who with two touches put the ball pass Wilkerson to level the scores as the sides shared the points.
