ACADEMY SEASON STARTS

11th September 2007

Our Under 9's travelled to Norwich City , our Under 12's were at home to Kidderminster Harriers, our Under 13's away to Burton Albion whilst our 14's at home entertained Romulus from the Midlands. Finally our Under 15's were away at Atherstone Town.

The scholars also got underway with training every day and will soon begin their academic programme at the Hertford Regional College.

It was a very busy weekend and team Managers Adam Clements, Anthony Graves, Brian Page , Jake Hammond and Simon Day were very pleased with the performances of the squads.

It is not our intention to put results on the web as they are misleading and tell you little when the main emphasis is on improving individual players and developing them. This is not to say winning is not important - all players should want to win but at young ages fun and player development is the key.

If anyone is interested they can always look on our league web site which is an excellent one called the Midland Junior Premier League.

Next weekend the team head off to various parts of the country whilst the U.13 and U.15's are at home. This month we play at St. Ivo Outdoor Centre but in October we have home games at Emmanuel College Sports Grounds on Wilberforce Road and we still seek a quality saturday morning pitch to meet our leagues requirements. If anyone can help please contact Peter Reeve on 07954401373. Peter has done great work for the academy over the summer seraching out training venues and pitches and we are just one home pitch short now !.

THANKYOU PEOPLE OF DERRY & The Foyle Cup.

5th August 2007

Brian Page has just returned from the historic city of Derry in the North of Ireland where our Histon Academy Under 15 team received a warm welcome from the Derry people who Brian describes as “the friendliest and kindest people I have ever met in the football world. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they looked after me and the boy's throughout our superb stay.”

Kit Carson described the tournament last year as the finest that we could send our boys to play in. It is not only a high level of football but the organisation and the quality of teams from many countries make it a real challenge. When the tournament first began Kit was an ardent supporter of it and sent his teams there at a time when it was not fashionable to send teams to Derry. Many strong links with Derry have resulted.

The Foyle Cup is tough and our team in spite of playing excellent football lost a place in the final rounds on goal difference. However, the Foyle provides plenty of quality football and so the disapointment was soon ended as they went into the Foyle Cup Plate competition instead.

Michael Hutton has treated Histon Football Club with great consideration this year and the thanks of the club are extended to him and his wonderful team. We hope very much that we can go again and reach the final stages of this great international competition.

Alex Day and Sam Kelly in action. Sam was the only Irish citizen in our team and his brothers Danny Michael and Ross have both played in the Foyle Cup .For Sam this was his first competitive matche in Ireland.

Support Chelsey - 15th July 2007

Histon Academy Under 16 Coach Chris Reynolds along with wife Melissa and son Duran are at BBC 1 studios a lot lately watching daughter Chelsey in the new series of Dance X . Histon Academy players are already poised to back the Reynolds family when the voting starts. Chelsey along with all the other hopefuls have fought there way into the finals competing against thousands of others and so if players think Chris is a little distracted in pre season training they know why!

Chris pictured here took our U.14's to Bordeaux recently with Anthony Graves and also to the Elite Cup in Denmark in May. Wife Melissa worked hard at every game with the Under 16s last Season organising refreshments for the home and away teams at Pembroke whilst son Duran is one of our most reliable players at either left back or left midfield. A true Histon family and so time for us to put a little back. VOTE CHELSEY !!

Final Academy Trials - Monday 2nd July

We will be holding final trials for the Histon Academy ages Under 12-16 for this coming season on Monday 2nd July.

Our main trials were held in April of this year but this extra trial is for those who were unable to make the April trials. Some players have also said that they did not do themselves justice at the last trials and would like another chance.

If you wish to attend please e mail the Academy () with your name, date of birth and position and we will let you have details of time and place and what to bring.

We do not have plans for further trials at younger age groups although if you e mail us here and address it for the attention of Adam Clements he will get back to you.

Histon Academy place third in French Tournament

11 June 2007

A mixed Academy Under 13 & 14 squad led by Chris Reynolds and Anthony Graves returned from a successful tour to the Medoc Region of France in Bordeaux where the wonderful football club of Gaillan once again looked after the players and coaches.

The Tournament of the South West ( Timso) attracted teams from all over France plus Poland and Algerian and English (us) participants.

The boys did superbly well and lost the semi final on penalties. The cruel nature of football was shown by the fact that the boys never lost a game, never conceded a goal and yet went out but finished a very creditable third.

They also won the Sportsmanship trophy proving once again that Histon not only can be successful on the field but can also be successful in the right way.

Rickie Knaepel pictured with the trophies was voted Histon player of the tournament although with just a small squad all of the team did superbly well.

Histon Academy U14 in Europe’s Elite

31 May 2007

The Histon Academy Under 14’s have just returned from Denmark where they took part very successfully in the Elite Cup. The Elite Cup held at the Danish Premiership club Aalborg’s palatial training ground is for elite and professional clubs from all over Europe and beyond including Brazil.

Histon joined other English clubs such as Norwich City & West Bromwich Albion as well as neighbours Cambridge United in what proved to be a brilliant event.

Histon started well beating the Swedes of Husie 3-0 and then Halmstadt 5-1 before meeting the favourites Danish giants Brondby . With a much superior goal difference Histon needed really only to draw with Brondby to knock them out of the tournament. In a fine match they drew 0-0 and Brondby knew that this would end their chances of winning the group in which only the top team went through.

In Brondby’s final match they scraped a win and so all Histon had to do was win by 1 goal against the groups weakest team Naesby. They took an early lead when Ross Woolford scored and then an appalling refereeing decision gave Naeby a farcical penalty in injury time in the first half. This completely unnerved Histon who threw the second half away by panicking and suddenly making mistakes that had not made all tournament. Brondy could not believe their luck and went through and won the tournament.

Histon licked their wounds and in the positional games for teams who finished second in the groups beat Boo of Sweden and then met Aalborg the host club for 5th place. Another brilliant match and it ended with a 1-1 draw which then went to penalties which in true English style Histon lost in spite of Michael Winstone in goal saving two penalties.

Brian Page & Chris Reynolds did a great job with the team and they returned home having learned a great deal from a truly excellent tournament.

Under 10s – Cup Winners!

24 May 2007

The Histon Academy U10s on Friday 11th May played their cup game final against Holbeach Yellow at Fenland Park home of Wisbech Town FC.
The Academy boys were very excited to play in a stadium packed with a magnificent crowd.

Trey West, Josh Barr Rostron and Izzy Brown scored twice to make the final score 4-0. Holbeach Yellow had a very professional attitude and never gave up and on a couple of occasions look to nick a goal.

A very happy Histon squad gained winners trophies for winning the cup as well as a trophy for coming second in the league. There were lots of singing and dancing later after the ceremony.

The following day the Academy U10s played in the Rushden & Diamonds Champions Tournement. The boys played well and got to the semi final losing to the eventual winners Bristol City FC 2-0.

Well done Lads!

UNDER 10’s Busy April

19 April 2007

The Histon Academy have had a busy and exciting football month so far.

At the start of the month they played Boston United in what was a truly excellent performance full of neat creative passing football. The only problem was in front of goal not being calm and placing the ball rather than attempting every time to break the back of the net.

However there were some fine individual performances particularly from Levi Boister whose goalscoring volley from outside the box was excellent whilst Izzy Brown not only scored but laid on a great pass for triallist Eathan Barney to score.

The Boston United Manager kindly complimented the lads by saying that they without doubt the best team they had played this season.

Encouraged by this the lads went to West Bromwich Albion and played Dan Ashworth’s Academy in their indoor dome on a 3rd generation pitch. West Brom as expected were excellent and never stopped pressuring the ball and the Histon lads found this difficult. However showing great character and determination and with 3 players actually under 9 they put up a great show and scored some fine goals.

Izzy Brown got a hatrick which received loud applause from the West Brom staff and Trey West followed by Matt Allen also scored clever goals whilst James Tapley in the Histon goal was kept very busy by some brilliant play by the “Baggies” and made some outstanding saves.

The boys had certainly put what they had learned at Boston into their West Brom performance and so carried it on to their third fixture against Ipswich Town Academy.

Against Ipswich the tempo and speed which Histon set was breathtaking at times and they moved the ball quickly and effectively and this was commented on by the Ipswich staff. This was the best Histon performance of the month although they still have a habit of conceding silly goals. Hopefully the lesson they will learn from this is to not do it in the future.

James Tapley was a great shot stopper. Angus Gough composed and comfortable at the back. Levi Boister put in some stunning crosses from deep positions whilst Josh Barr-Rostron was as always a player always positive in his approach. Jack Orielly weaved in and out causing the Ipswich right back plenty of problems whilst Aysa Ourtilbour broke up many Ipswich attacks and Trey West was a constant menace with some great runs. Izzy Brown with his pace and balance Seb Massey with his excellent wing play and Charlie Ling showed vision by his switching of play and neat touch.

All in a great few weeks with lots learned and most of all really enjoyed by players staff and parents alike.

We like the contacts we have with good professional clubs and in Norwich City, Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion we feel that we can compete successfully and feel welcomed.
